The Canadian Press

Video news consulting - case study

The Canadian Press is Canada’s largest news agency, providing Canadian news content to newspapers, online brands, niche web sites and broadcasters.

When CP came to CWD it was producing breaking news video content, however, its customers or prospective clients had no way to preview the video content. CWD principle, Andy Walker, designed and implemented a strategy to select a platform that would give CP and its clients a cloud-based tool that CP could use to market and better distribute video news content.

CP also engaged Walker to evaluate a series of video monetization strategies that were outside its traditional scope of expertise. This included an ad based video distribution pilot, as well as, a third party consumer video channel.

In CWD’s second engagement with CP a major national newspaper company was looking to outsource video news post-production to a new CP video unit. CWD’s Walker provided support around production costs and business development of the new unit. He also helped identify key talent to start up and run the unit and he provided his expertise during the first critical 90 days of operation of the pilot.

Core services provided were business analysis, monetization strategy, business unit bootstrapping and platform evaluation.
